Description:
This workshop will focus on thrown and altered pots. We will be working all day Saturday throwing forms. We will also be talking about the skills utilized in pulling handles and making lids fit. We will engage in conversations about why we make certain choices about form and how it profoundly impacts the piece itself. Sunday will see the assembling of the pieces thrown on Saturday with leather hard alterations using techniques involving scraping, paddling and poking.
She also try, in each demonstration, to expand awareness of the many choices made, moment to moment, often unconsciously, that deeply affect the resolution and expressive nature of simple pots. Balance, scale, contour, shape, feel, proportion, surface are all words that will come up as we look at and delve into the choices made when pots are being formed.
Through discussion, demonstration, and slide presentation Ellen hopes to spark new ideas and encourage a thoughtful exploration of form.
