Next up in “The Front Office Gallery” @ sfclayworks.

OF THE EARTH…Ceramics works created by artist and longtime community studio member Laurette Lau.

From time to time we love to feature sfclayworks community members who we feel have an incredible passion for the ceramic arts. Laurette has been working in clay for many years; first at “The Clay Studio”, and currently at sfclayworks. Laurette continues to change and grow in her work. Recently, Laurette has been very focused on her observations of nature and her attention to detail is quite evident in her work.

Laurette will be showing her detailed nature-inspired work in “The Front Office Gallery” at sfclayworks from March 2-30, 2019.
Of The Earth… Opening event will take place Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 4:30-7:00 pm. Stop in and meet Laurette and see how her careful study of nature is expressed in clay.

Artist Statement:

Nature never ceases to amaze and inspire me. The very fact that the medium we use in ceramics is dug out of the earth… shaped and transformed by fire into works that have meaning, function, and value in our lives is quite profound.

This collection, “Of the Earth” speaks of life. Time leaves its mark on all things… we are scarred, textured, and polished by our experiences. Our very existence reflects the acceptance of change… to surrender to that fact is to breathe and live. What remains is the beauty and the noble bearing of its journey.

Artist History:

I’ve been a clay hobbyist for many years. A full-time job in the classroom along with the demands of family life kept my clay work purely recreational. It was always fun but more importantly … therapeutic to balance out a stressful job. My recent retirement has been a godsend… a gift of time, creativity, and self-reflection. Many thanks go to sfclayworks for their encouragement and the opportunity to share my work with others.
