On December 9, 2012, sfclayworks held their first annual box party. “The Box Party,” a long standing tradition at our former studio, The Clay Studio, was a tradition that may have been going on for 25 years before the studio closed in 2011. “The Box Party” has always been one of the most anticipated and beloved events of the year – a wonderful opportunity for the entire studio community to come together and celebrate our common bond of creativity. For many it is a time to visit old friends and perhaps make new ones as we gather together to celebrate. In keeping with old traditions, the studio was transformed into an elegant display. Our normally dusty studio was equipped with rented chairs and tables adorned with white table linens. Tables were also decorated with a variety of candle holders created by many of the artists and students of sfclayworks. The dimmed lights and the sparkle of holiday lighting also added to the elegance of the evening. Many of the normally clay covered guests decided to take this opportunity to get dressed up as you will notice in many of the photos. After partaking in the incredible spread of food, and a few thank you announcements, the much anticipated box exchange took place. Boxes filled with homemade items fitted into our 3”x3”x5” boxes began their journey around the room. There was lots of shaking and weight checking of the boxes until each guest decided which parcel was the perfect choice. After opening their chosen box the most fun was trying to figure out who-got-who’s creation. Overall, the consensus is that the first annual sfclayworks box party was a smashing success! We can hardly wait till next year!
