SF Open Studios 2022 @sfclayworks

Studio artist Beth Ozarow shared a few thoughts about this year’s SF Open Studio  2022 @sfclayworks below.

On the weekend of November 5th and 6th, 2022 sfclayworks opened the studio doors to the public in celebration of SF Open Studios month for the first time since 2019. Participating this year were the following studio artists – Nina Salman, Beth Ozarow, Takashi Fukuda, and Sarah Cruz. Community members included Harry Brown, Shannon Leslie, Kathy Fugitt, and Laurette Lau. Special guest Saba Parsa, jam maker extraordinaire, of sabajam returned “home” this year to sfclayworks where she got her jammin start. We missed having Joyce Fujiwara there as the anchoring presence she is, and look forward to next time when she’ll join in the fun again.

It felt truly special this time around.

On reflection, what made it so special was the complete, familiar, NORMALCY of the event. It had the liveliness, camaraderie and beautiful sense of gathering the community at large that such events have had in past years. There were differences, of course, since the last time we were able to have an “in-person” version of SF Open Studios. The most obvious difference was a reflection of the changes that we’ve made in how the studio operates over the last three years: in addition to the studio owners participating, as usual, several “community members” also presented their work, which broadened and enlivened the event for us all.
