All of us at sfclayworks are continuing to consider how best to navigate the current Covid-19 crisis. Plans previously laid out for our students and community members changed in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

One year ago today we were in the midst of our 9th year as a vibrant ceramics studio that provided classes, community studio membership, and private studio spaces. Since our closure, we have been operating in what we can best describe as “survival” mode, riding the fine line between reduced exposure to the virus and paying our bills. At this time we have cancelled all classes and have redefined community space memberships. We are allowing a slow reintroduction of members on a limited basis from our list of members who lost access to the studio. We are sad that we have had to make these changes, but rather than rushing to open our doors and risk unnecessary exposure to the community, a thoughtfully planned and careful approach is helping us continue to work safely in the studio.

Looking at the bright side, we have managed to operate safely in this new model, and the closure has given us the opportunity to repair the arch in our gas kiln, and also do a couple of updates to our electric kilns. All of our equipment has been overhauled and we are in top shape to continue creating and firing our works of art.

We miss all of you… Please continue to stay safe, and hopefully, when it is safe to do so, we will all be able to come together again as a community.  Spring is coming-keep smiling and hope for a brighter future.

Smile spring is coming… Bernal Heights 2021
